Decostar, a division of Decoma / Magna, has built a state of the art manufacturing and sequential delivery configuration to deliver exterior trim parts for the front and rear of the Mercedes M Class SUV. They have been challenged to provide hundreds of possible product options directly to the assembly line at exactly the minute specified while maintaining the lowest level of inventory and manufacturing costs. Decostar selected the QAD JIT/S system, linked directly to their MES and MFG/PRO deployments, as the primary tool to cover all aspects of their business processes from receiving the customer demand requirements through shipping and invoicing. The methods and techniques they used to position and implement this system will be presented along with a review of their results and future plans.
