Attribute Management And MOVEX Paper
PART 3
Material and Production
Planning
Attributes play an important
role in the planning process, such as in situations where products with the same
characteristics are grouped together to optimize machine utilization and minimize waste.
In connection with order entry, Movex Paper creates all requirements with related
attributes on all levels. Movex Paper then allows you to select and group orders by
attribute so that similar orders can be produced at the same time. To make production more
efficient, Movex Paper also lets you combine or split requirements as necessary. So, for
example, several small orders can be combined into a larger requirement and later be split
into the original orders.
Additionally, attributes can
be used to:
Support planning the demand
for material, semi-finished and finished products. Attribute values can be left open at
order entry and can be filled in later by the planner to make calculations and determine
how to supply the demand.
Create trim groups using
attributes for optimal trim, such as width, diameter or type of core. Set and web numbers
can be stored as attributes that can be exchanged with an external trim system.
Support rework and rewind
operations. The difference between the start product and the end product is often a
relatively minor attribute change, such as a new width or roll diameter.
Send and receive order
information from an external manufacturing execution system.
Sort the sequence of
production orders.
The demand for material,
semi-finished products and finished products can also be generated from a time phased MRP
calculation involving attributes.

To make production more
efficient, Movex Paper also lets you combine or split requirements as necessary. So, for
example, several small orders can be combined into a larger requirement and later be split
into the original orders.
Procurement
In the paper industry, the
importance of the procurement process varies according to each company’s needs. Its
importance depends on factors such as the number of raw materials and semi-finished
products that are purchased. Another factor is how the purchasing process is handled, for
example if reels are purchased with standard widths and diameters or if the width should
be different for every order.
Movex Paper generates demands
for purchase orders:
Production
In addition to basic
information such as quantities and production times, attributes play a key role throughout
the entire production process. In this process, attributes are often used as instructions
about which product to manufacture as well as which dimensions, quality and packaging to
use. Movex Paper supports this by allowing you to specify information about what to
produce and when to produce it in a production order. Throughout this process, order
attributes can be displayed and measured, and the actual values compared to the order
values for the product at each level in the production process. This can be useful when
allocating semi-finished products with certain attributes, or when reporting production
for a completed set and related trim pattern where you simultaneously register special
information for a lot that is important for downstream operations.
To further support the
production process via attributes, Movex Paper offers the following capabilities:
Label production with data
from user-defined attributes for each process level, such as different labels for
semi-finished and finished products
Waste calculation and
reporting
Back flushing calculations
To simplify machine tasks and
optimize production, you can also use attributes to sort production orders in the desired
sequence. This can be especially important for last minute re-planning due to production
disturbances, for example.

Movex Paper supports all the
functions needed to display and report attribute values at all stages of the production.
Warehouse and Distribution Management
Knowing the attributes
associated with each lot is important for reducing inventory and providing a faster
turnaround of customer orders. Movex Paper allows you to maintain your inventory by
attribute. You can search by attribute at order entry to determine whether to fill the
order from inventory. The search is made manually or automatically, is based on
customer-defined allocation rules, and can include both semi-finished and finished
products. For example, based on the setup you can automatically search for specific
criteria if a customer wants a specific grade of product, width or roll diameter. If your
search does not yield a positive result, you can extend it to include broader widths and
larger roll diameters, or you can consider rework.
As with regular customer
orders, stock orders can be managed with attributes. Also, a stock order can be created
either manually or via a product with set attributes and then initiated using reorder
points and related information such as order volume and safety stock level. Using
attributes, you can define a stock order to be consumed by requirements from a customer
order. This is useful when semi-finished products are made to stock based on reorder
points, and when you want the customer order to first use available inventory and initiate
a new production requirement only when inventory is unavailable.
Movex Paper provides the
following capabilities for managing and analyzing stock levels:
User-defined aggregate stock
levels can be set, and a drill-down carried out to the lowest level. You can use this to
find the current stock level by any combination, for example customer, grade and substance weight.
Stock levels can be handled
in an unlimited number of units of measure.
Movex Paper allows you to
manage products that fall outside set limits, not only to prevent delivery but also to
allow information searches related to claims. For example, if an attribute that is part of
a product identity is assigned a measured value outside the limit, reclassification of a
lot will be automatically set by the reclassification routine. Attributes can also be used
to search for a desired lot if the lot number is not available, and so provides full
traceability forward and back.
Movex Paper helps you utilize
warehouses and distribution centers near the customer. You can also link the warehouses
and distribution centers to the main warehouse, which is often located at the production
facility.
Movex Paper offers the
following capabilities for supporting attribute-based distribution:
A distribution order with
the defined attributes can be created for the supplying warehouse based on demands
generated by customer or stock orders.
User-defined attributes can
be printed on the picking list.
You can enter a manual value
in addition to the requested order value and the measured value of an attribute. You can
then select which one to use when the product is delivered. All these values are available
in parallel.

All attribute values given at
order entry, planning, procurement or later in production can be used in the distribution
flow.
