ORACLE BUSINESS
INTELLIGENCE SYSTEM 11i
Oracle@Business Intelligence System 11i, a new class of enterprise
software, is an Internet ready performance management system which
provides a framework for corporate performance management and continuous
process improvement. By delivering timely and accurate information, BIS
enables managers to make better decisions, faster. Oracle Business
Intelligence System is part of the Oracle E-Business Suite, an
integrated suite of e-business applications for the enterprise, which is
designed to transform your business into an e-business.
Oracle Business Intelligence System can seamlessly analyze the "back
office" and "front office" data provided by the Oracle E-Business Suite.
This includes ERP applications such as Financials, Human Resources,
Purchasing, Operations, and Manufacturing, and CRM applications
supporting Sales, Service, Customer, Marketing, and Interaction Center
(Call Center). Users can set targets to meet their strategic objectives,
monitor performance in all areas of the company, receive notifications
when performance is out of tolerance, and respond immediately by taking
corrective actions.
Oracle Business
Intelligence Strategy Managers need information to run their businesses. Today's
packaged applications provide data at the transactional level but do not
provide a means of measuring business performance. As a result,
management's traditional methods of gathering performance data are slow
and often result in missed opportunities.
Oracle Business Intelligence System (BIS) provides an entire framework
for setting management goals, measuring company performance against
targets, enabling root-cause analysis, collaborating directly with
responsible managers, and responding in a timely manner.
Furthermore, BIS takes an enterprise view of the data, so that
not-so-obvious, cross-organizational issues may also be considered.
Performance may be monitored via the manager's Personal Homepage where she
can select key performance measures to monitor her organization's current
performance or graph her organization's performance over time. To help
managers better understand their business and the underlying causes of
business performance, BIS includes many ready-to-run intelligence reports
and Discoverer analysis workbooks. BIS also includes search engines that
direct users to intelligence reports and analysis workbooks based on their
business questions.
By allowing managers to proactively track, measure and analyze
enterprise performance, BIS provides a powerful corporate management tool
for today's e-business demands.

Powerful graphs visualize trends and breakdowns. Information can be
delivered on a company's intranet using state of the art, ready-to-run and
drill down intelligence reporting

Users can unleash the power of the award-winning Discoverer query tool
to analyze corporate performance across multiple dimensions within
ready-to-run analysis workbooks over the web
Oracle's Total
Applications Solution Transforms the Way You Do Business Oracle BIS is fully integrated with the
Oracle E-Business Suite to provide comprehensive business solutions over
the Internet for your business intelligence needs. Using Oracle's
E-Business Suite applications, you can rapidly transform your business
into an e-business and take full advantage of the power of the
Internet.
Oracle E-Business Suite applications lower your cost of deployment and
operation because the software does not need to be loaded on each client
and changes can be made centrally. The applications are accessed over the
corporate intranet for internal transactions and over the public Internet
for e-commerce.
Oracle E-Business Suite applications give you better information,
worldwide. Your global information is available in one place instead of
having to consolidate data from several regions or multiple locations.
Immediate access to global information allows you to make better decisions
-- faster.
As a provider of global consulting, education, and support services,
Oracle provides the most complete e-business solution available
Oracle BIS in ERP:
Add Value to Your Core Processes The Internet changes decision-making: BIS changes the way
managers receive performance information by making access quick and easy
through a customizable executive dashboard called the Personal Homepage.
BIS transforms the way managers use information: By transforming
transactional data into meaningful information, BIS allows managers to
define, monitor, and analyze corporate performance. BIS reporting provides
much more than traditional Decision Support Systems (DSS) by enabling
analysis of critical enterprise wide performance issues.
BIS is fully integrated with the
E-Business Suite and does not require the time and cost associated with
implementing custom DSS. BIS allows you to setup your DSS along with your
ERP efforts, not after. Your time-to-benefit is immediate since users can
start browsing ready-to-run analysis reports as soon as E-Business Suite
applications are installed. BIS targets your entire user population
through easy access to several levels of analysis. BIS reporting provides
transaction specific details as needed by all types of users. BIS is also
universally accessible to anyone with a web browser since the product is
web-enabled.
By providing a "holistic" view of the
corporation, BIS 11i raises the bar for packaged DSS by providing
ready-to-run complex analysis of data provided by the applications of the
Oracle E-Business Suite, thus eliminating non-value added activities
required with traditional DSS. In addition to expanding the number of
performance measures, intelligence reports and analysis workbooks, BIS 11i
delivers cross-organizational reporting never seen before in any decision
support application.
Oracle BIS in CRM:
Know Your Customers and Grow Your Business The key objectives for e-businesses are
ensuring growth while minimizing costs. Every customer relationship has an
economic impact on the business, so it is critical to identify and focus
on which customers are most profitable to deliver to them products and
services they are most interested in, through the interaction channel they
want to use, at the level of customer service they expect. The Oracle
E-Business Suite CRM applications include Sales, Service, Marketing,
Interaction Center (also known as Call Center), and Customer Intelligence
applications. The CRM Intelligence applications provide the information
required by e-businesses to manage sales, marketing, and customer
activities effectively.
More than ever, enterprises need to manage
the information required to understand customer interests and requirements
and to respond quickly and efficiently. Otherwise, organizations risk
losing their customers to the competition. Customer interactions need to
be highly personalized to enhance the customer experience and establish a
long term relationship of loyalty and trust. The Oracle Service and
Interaction Center Intelligence applications manage an organization's
points of contact with customers to ensure the highest level of customer
satisfaction.
The Oracle Sales and Marketing Intelligence
applications provides the means to design good segmentation efforts based
on transaction history and demographic data; enabling companies to plan
and execute very focused and cost-effective marketing and sales campaigns.
Companies can also perform analyses to determine purchasing preferences,
or spending thresholds to determine future cross-sell and up-sell
opportunities.
The Oracle Customer Intelligence application
leverages the customer information from across the enterprise to provide
critical information about a company's customers including customer
retention and satisfaction based on key performance metrics.
Using Oracle BIS:
Spend Only Minutes A Day Each manager has a Personal Homepage with several important
sections, called "regions", that allow for an immediate understanding of
the state of the business. There are seven sections or "regions" on each
BIS Personal Homepage. One region, called "Navigate" identifies all
business intelligence areas related to that manager. Another region,
called "Notifications" lists all notifications from the Oracle Workflow
system related to out-of-tolerance performance issues. Additionally, there
is a region, called "Trends" with graphs that track the trends of
important performance measures. Managers can also monitor current
performance of their most critical business areas in the "Performance
Measures" region. Also, managers can set up their own region, called
"Favorites" for items of interest (i.e. both internal and external
"bookmarks"), which they need or want to monitor. Finally, there are two
regions with search engines: One for querying intelligence reports and
workbooks, called "Ask Oracle", and the other for querying business views
and the EUL, called "Business Views Catalog". Below is an example of a
Personal Homepage.

Personal Homepage
The Personal Homepage allows users to create a work space that makes
the most sense to them, and thereby creates a very productive work
environment. By spending minutes, not days, to gather important
information about the business, managers can make informed decisions
quickly. BIS Personal Homepage empowers its users. It is designed with
users in mind by being: (i) Universally accessible, (ii) User-friendly,
(iii) Customizable and (iv) by providing an Enhanced Web User
Interface

Customize the entire appearance of your intelligence environment
End Users can customize the entire appearance of their intelligence
environment. Automatic refresh capabilities will keep your managers
up-to-date with every Performance Measure that they are responsible
for.
The Internet Changes your Internal Business Processes
Management by
Objective To prevent
information overload and to make sure that managers can focus on the most
important issues, Oracle Business Intelligence System provides a
full-featured Performance Management Framework (PMF). The PMF allows
definition of management goals and objectives, and best business
practices. Managers can set tolerances at different levels and use the
powerful features of Oracle Workflow to notify responsible managers when
their performance is out of tolerance. BIS promotes a proactive management
style by providing managers with timely notifications about their business
performance. All this critical information can be universally accessed via
the BIS Personal Homepage.
Performance Measures
for Continuous Internal Business Process Improvement Today's business requires enterprise wide
intelligence that enables managers to focus on cross functional business
objectives BIS helps your company act in unison to achieve a common set
of goals versus functional "silos". At the heart of BIS is the Performance
Management Framework with Performance Measures for several business areas,
which provides managers with an end-to-end process view of the enterprise.
Furthermore, by having access to these critical metrics at their
fingertips, managers can take proactive actions that will improve their
organization's internal business processes.
BIS intelligence areas such as Financials, Operations, Process
Manufacturing, Purchasing and Human Resources provide a comprehensive set
of performance measures, which have been designed to serve as strategic
metrics that have a direct impact on the enterprise's bottom line.
Finally, Oracle Internet business practices, combined with BIS Release 11i
allow enterprises to deploy its business process improvement best
practices rapidly and globally.
